Buddha bowls, macro bowls, salad bowls, rainbow bowls – whatever you like to call them, they’ve taken Instagram by storm and we wanted to test the concept…does pretty food taste better?

Hell yeah! 

OK…so it didn’t really make the food taste better (it was already good!) but it did make everything look more appetising and it was a lot of fun. It also gives you a burst of culinary adrenaline and you suddenly think of all sorts of dishes that would work in this way. It turns most mid-week dishes into bowls of food you would be happy to serve to your guests or friends for any casual get-together.

Why are they called Buddha Bowls?  Well, a quick google and we can reveal it’s all to do with the shape of the bowl – full and rounded, just like a Buddha Belly.  Enjoy.

Chilli Con Carne Buddha Bowl

Our Chilli bowl makes the perfect TV dinner.  We’ve teamed our best-selling Chilli Con Carne with basmati rice, sour cream, avocado, nachos, extra kidney beans and a mango, chilli & pomegranate salsa.

  • Tortilla chips

For the mango salsa, we used chopped mango and mixed it with pomegranates and finely chopped red chilli, season well.

Just a bright colourful bowl of nourishing goodness. 

  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Braised Red Cabbage
  • Sautéed garlic kale
  • Mixed Roast Root Vegetables
  • Giant couscous
  • Baby tomatoes
  • Beetroot Houmous – we found ours in Sainsburys

We roasted our own chickpeas – it’s really easy and they make a delicious snack.  Simple drain canned and place into a bowl.  Drizzle with olive oil and season – we used a harissa spice mix.  Roast in a preheated oven (180C fan) for 25-35 minutes until golden and crispy.

Spinach Bites Buddha Bowl

Here we’ve created a super-pretty buddha bowl featuring our Spinach Bites

  • Spinach Bites
  • Sautéed Garlic Kale
  • Black Beluga Lentils with Pomegranate seeds
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Courgetti, with dried chilli
  • Fresh chives, chopped
  • Edible flowers – we found them in Sainsburys with the prepacked herbs

We used ready prepared Black Beluga Lentils from Sainsburys.  We mixed them with the juice and seeds of 1 pomegranate and seasoned with salt, black pepper, sliced red chilli and chopped spring onions. Sprinkle with dried chilli & freshly chopped chives.
